Sunflower Club

We are taking part in Nuturestores Sunflower Club and have been busy planting our seeds. We are using single giant sunflowers and have decided to start them off inside, as last year our sunflowers were pretty late and lame!

So we decided to plant our seeds in egg shells, as sunflowers don't like to be transplanted and this is a great and Eco friendly way of doing this.

Both the boys love gardening which makes my heart sing and we will be planting more seeds over the coming weeks

We put one seed in each egg shell and covered with more soil.

We are going to be doing a scrapbook like Nurturestore have and keep a record of growth etc over the coming months too.  When I asked Mini what did the sunflowers seeds need to grow, he told me that they need soil, water, sunshine and lots of love.

Fantastic - I won some sunflower seeds from Nuturestore but haven't got round to planting them yet with my son. Eggshells, brilliant. I am now inspired! Thank you.

Brilliant idea about planting in egg shells - never thought of that before. Looks like you had lots of fun! And it is eco-friendly, indeed! Well done!

It is great fun, plus you can just pop them in the soil. You could do cress heads with them too!
Thanks for the kick in the bum to start our own. Our last frost is end of May, though, so maybe I better wait until April as I find after 6 weeks they're ready to go outside. Time to start thinking about it, though!

I love the eggshell idea - I am doing my garden today. Eggshell is also good for keeping slugs off gardens/pots too.

We keep all our eggshells for the compost bin, but we are popping seeds in at the moment and then I need them for easter crafts
I need all my eggshells to walk on when speaking to my hormonal 10 year old!!

Thanks for commenting on mine (new photo of my son on the bully off post btw - he put it on himself!!)

Father in law died aged 94 and he had Dementia (I wrote a post on him on the guest blog thingy on Flying Start Manda, if you have chance to read it).

I'm in awe of the amount of postings you manage - I feel inadequate!! Must go - funeral to attend and this blogging is very bad form!

Well done on the planting. I love the eggshell idea too. Our first seedlings are peeping up today - very exciting! (And thank you for linking up to the MckLinky at mine x)

Have tagged you over at mine, go have a gander. I'd love to hear your 10 things for the Happiness MeMe

Excellent! I'm saving my eggshells at the moment to crush and put at the bottom of my potted on tom seedlings. Always assuming they'll germinate!

Otherwise I'm going to crush them as weapons in the Battle of the Slugs 2010. Yeah, that should stop them...;0)
Cool, I love sunflowers! I'd never thought of starting them in eggshells - that's a genius idea.
