Childrens Craft Showcase for 2010

I started the craft showcase in 2009, becuase once I had the boys I also developed the need to be more creative, which is something I have never ever been before.

Rather than finding it a messy, time consuming and a chore, it is a true joy.  It is helping me get over my perfectionist tendencies, in that I have finally let go and let the boys interprete what I mean and also it doesnt matter if mine doesnt look perfect.

Bearing in mind that the mini mads are 3 and 4 I tend to stick to easy and simple projects that use everyday things.  My neice is also 4 and she is much more creative than the boys, but loves to do all the crafts with us too.

To give you some ideas I have listed some of the projects that we did:

The main thing about crafting with Children is that it doent have to to just right, it is all about letting their creative style come out.  Dont get stressed about anything, preparation is the key, if you have a plastic table cloth, wipes and a hoover then anything can be cleaned up!!

Main Materials

Pre mixed paint - Supermarkets are a great place for value paint
Paper and card - Again supermarkets, Pound Store and The Works
Glitter - Pound store, WH SMiths do a nice pack with just small holes in, ELC also do a glitter in glue.
Craft Sissors for children - Supermarkets and WH Smiths
Masking tape - DIY Store

I find that by keeping my eyes out for good value materials, but you can use most things that you have at home.  You can mix corn flour and food colouring to make a pavement chalk.

The think is I need your help.  I want the craft showcase to be successful, to inspire people and for people to join in.

So please let me know what you want it to be, how often it should be on and what crafts and ideas you would like to cover?

The more input you put in, the better I can make things.

I think once a week would be fine, shouldn't be too much pressure to keep up and if your little ones have created more than one masterpiece you can show them all in one post.
Also for myself personally I know by committing to this will give me the kick up the backside I sometimes need to get all the messy stuff out. I love sitting down with the kids and doing but sometimes the thought of it is more of an effort than actual doing.
Perhaps the type of crafts should be left to the individual as obviously a lot depends on ages of the children.
I've already added your button and will post about it tomorrow.
Love this idea of yours so much and hope you get lots joining in.

Once a week as bekimarie said or even once a fortnight... then I won't feel hugely guilty that my plan to do artsy stuff with my two is slipping come the Summer! I would like it if you did some seasonal things (there is like an event every month of the year lol) and also I shall sign the creations of my two up!

I've said it before but I adore that Angel and...I have one of the Christmas Tree cards too !

Alas my crafting days with little ones are over until I get grandchildren! ... but I am thinking of returning as a helper at the primary school

We do love our crafts, but mostly on wet weekends so I would say once a fortnight as well. When the weather's good my boys need a run around at the weekend to spend some energy. Ideas: how about some outdoor related crafts like bird seed cakes or twig stars or anything we can collect outside to use or get from our nature bowl. I'll post your button as well.

We craft when we have the time to do it, I think once a week for the showcase is fine.

I end up bookmarking them all for when Piran is older but I always like to read the posts.

I love the inspiration, but I would suggest only posting as and when you can. No need to put extra pressure on yourself. x

I love your craft ideas - my boys are the same age range as yours, and I tried out your penguins to great success! I have no ideas, but do love to read your posts, so like Sandy recommends, post when you feel like it and when you have a good idea. I'll be trying it out the very next day. Thanks for all your efforts, there are 2 boys in Bosnia who are ever so grateful! xx
